Rivera, Lorenzana show way in JJLHS Essay Writing Contest

Shairene Rivera from 9-Nickel and Raiah Faith Mikhaila Lorenzana of 10-Diamond emerged as champions in the first ever Essay Writing Contest put up by the Judge Juan Luna High School Alumni Association for the students enrolled in school year 2021–2022.

Rivera topped 11 other participants in the English category of the Essay Writing Contest entitled: ‘Rise Up! JJLHS.’

She garnered an average of 89% from the panel of judges composed of Reynaldo Belen, a free lance blogger, Divine Wellness managing editor Noli Cruz and veteran sports journalist Rey Joble.

Placing second was Mikaela Marbebe, who compiled an average of 82.66, edging closest pursuer, Metch Pinuela of 10-Amethyst, who tallied an average of 82.33, to secure third place.

In the Filipino category, which has a title: ‘Bangon! Hukom Juan Luna’, Lorenzana was the hands down winner as she put up an average of 93.13 and earned the nod of the panel of judges led by Raffy Ayeng, newsman from the Daily Tribune, veteran scribe and Filipino professor Joel Orellana and spoken word poetry artist and free lance host JL Sampayo.

Coming in second was Fiona Rose Recepcion, who had an aggregate of 89.37 followed by Adrian Ongtingco, who submitted 84.13.

All top three winners from each category will receive brand new pocket wifis from sponsor SMART Communications. The organizing JJLHS Alumni Association has also put up wifi loads to the top three winners broken down as follows:

1st place — (English and Filipino), P1,000 worth of internet load

2nd place — (English and Filipino) P300 worth of internet load

3rd place — (English and Filipino) P200 worth of internet load

Consolation prizes of P100 each of internet load will be provided to all those who made it to the final round of the Essay Writing Contest.
